The SBTi is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. The SBTi is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)
Keeping the growth of average temperature around the world below 2⁰C is a global goal leading to a halt in climate change. Climate action failure is one of the most serious global risks for the coming decade identified in the World Economic Forum's Global Risk Report. At the same time, given the current level of ambitions expressed in global climate policies adopted by the end of 2020, we can expect the global average temperature to rise to about 3°C compared to the pre-industrial times. This signifies an urgent need and the last moment for all entities, including representatives of business, to get involved in the fight to reduce atmospheric emissions and stop climate change.
Joining the group of companies that have set reduction targets based on science is not only an honour, but above all a huge commitment. I do believe that all of us, but especially companies, have a responsibility for the future of our planet. By setting targets and having them verified by SBTi experts, we constantly strive to reduce our impact on the environment and we intend to follow the path set by the Paris Agreement to fight climate change. – said Ewald Raben, CEO Raben Group.
In 2022, following the publication of the IPCC report (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the company set new, more ambitious targets that include emission reductions across the value chain. Approval of the targets by the SBTi has confirmed their compliance with the climate goal of the 2015 Paris Agreement, which is to halt the rise in global average temperature at below 2⁰C.
Determining the level of reduction based on the SBTi methodology is just the beginning. To fully achieve our targets, it is necessary to involve not only ourselves, but also all partners in our supply chain. Without cooperation, dialogue based on a community of values, achieving global goals and agreements will not be possible - explains Ewelina Jabłonska-Gryżenia, Head of Sustainability.
Raben Group's new near-term targets assume the reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 38.7% by 2030 (compared to the level of emissions in these scopes in 2020). This means a reduction in emissions from both the transport carried out by Raben Group's own fleet and emissions related to the maintenance of buildings and warehouse infrastructure. In addition, in order to achieve the goal of the Paris Agreement, Raben Group has committed itself to engaging its regular carriers, collectively responsible for 77% of Scope 3 emissions, in climate action by 2026, and for them to set emission reduction targets in line with scientific knowledge.
Setting targets required a comprehensive approach and a detailed analysis of business operations and its impact on the climate. Therefore, Raben Group was supported throughout the development process by Deloitte
La definizione degli obiettivi ha richiesto un approccio globale e un'analisi dettagliata delle attività aziendali e del loro impatto sul clima. Per questo motivo, Raben Group è stato supportata da Deloitte durante l'intero processo di sviluppo.
The SBTi is now being joined by companies that are aware of the need to act now and that understand the need for a comprehensive approach to reducing their own emissions, including the involvement of the entire supply chain. Developing an ambitious decarbonization science-based strategy requires the inclusion of many internal stakeholders and very often the definition of targets that are not easily achievable, given current technological developments. - said Tomasz Gasiński, Director in the Deloitte sustainable development team, leader in advising on climate change and ESG risks, Deloitte..
