The sea and air sector has been discussed a lot recently, in particular thanks to the 25th edition of the WCA World Conference in Singapore, the largest logistics network for global forwarders to which Raben Group and Raben SITTAM also returned after a 3-years forced stop. A special occasion during which industry players from all over the world had the opportunity to strengthen ties and forge new strategic partnerships, but above all to cooperate and discuss future developments in the sector.
Despite the current socio-economic conditions are not the most favourable, the logistics and transport sector is once again proving to be extremely resilient with positive growth prospects for global maritime trade in particular. According to SRM's 2022 'Italian Maritime Economy' Report, in fact, global sea trade will grow by 2.3% in 2023 compared to 12.2 billion tonnes in 2022. Import-export by sea will continue to represent the backbone of international trade.
Returning from the WCA World Conference in Singapore, Alessandro Tassano, Sea&Air Manager of Raben SITTAM, commented: "After three years of absence it was very exciting to be back in attendance and to have the opportunity to pick up where we left off, there was a lot of anticipation and a lot of positivity in the 1 to 1 meetings we had during the various daily sessions, we met over 120 partners from all over the world. Events like this are essential for comparison and dialogue between professionals, as well as a great opportunity to lay the foundations for new cooperation and projects. Thanks to the WCA World Conference, Raben Group and Raben SITTAM were able to strengthen their positioning and bring their expertise, which goes far beyond Road Network and Contract Logistics, to the attention of the largest international operators and agents".
For several years now, Raben SITTAM and Raben Group have been working to establish close and loyal cooperation with shipowners and airlines that can help them easily connect the various continents on a daily basis and bring even the most remote locations around the world closer. Annually, Raben SITTAM handles around 5,000 sea shipments and 4,000 air shipments, with 6,000 teu transported, 13,000 CBM and 1,800 tonnes handled.
Among the novelties for 2023, the company announced the implementation of new services and new maritime consolidations for Israel and Pakistan shortly, although the target market for 2023 will be Latin America and, above all, Mexico thanks to the strong partnerships developed locally that will allow Raben to increase its market share. In this regard, a special cargo recently departed from the port of Savona for Mexico: 4 pieces of large carpentry, 11m x 5.5m x 3.25m, proving that there is no shipment too large for Raben SITTAM to handle. The entire activity was coordinated by the Raben SITTAM team which followed the entire shipping process, taking care of even the smallest details, from quotation to final delivery.
On the air transport front, however, Raben SITTAM announced that two new weekly air consolidations will see the light in the coming months; one to Doha, departing every Monday with a direct flight from Milan MXP, and one to Bahrain, departing every Sunday with a direct flight from London. There are other projects under consideration that Raben SITTAM aims to have operational by Q4 of this 2023. Finally, Raben SITTAM is also finalising the testing phase of the new operating system for the Sea & Air segment. As is already the case for the road transport division, this will be a single TMS common to all Raben Group business units, bringing greater efficiency and management benefits both internally and externally.
